On a beautiful Tuesday morning, blue skies and a slight breeze swirled outside the recently completed Robert W. Plaster Center on the Pittsburg State University campus. You could feel the excitement in the air…a fourteen-month journey was coming to an end and a state-of-the-art, 154,000-square-foot athletics facility was about to be born.

Tasked with giving the facility it’s wardrobe, Pittcraft worked in correlation with a team of PSU employees and former alumni to develop wall art that would enhance the “wow factor” of the newly built facility. It would display the brand’s history and the athletic’s pedigree with the utmost quality and care.

Walking through the main entrance of the PSU Plaster Center you are promptly met by a sight the employees at Pittcraft like to refer to as “The Gateway to Gorilla Nation.” A nearly 60 feet wide by 15 feet tall wall graphic displaying the traditional PSU Split Face logo which reads “This Is Gorilla Nation”, with the school fight song ghosted in the background for a subtle reminder of who and what Pittsburg State University stands for.

As the tour continues you’ll notice the hallways leading into the football locker room covered in printed wall graphics spanning nearly 20 feet wide by 8 feet tall honoring the program’s recent 2011 NCAA Division II Football National Championship run. A timeless photo capturing current head coach Tim Beck, along with former PSU and current NFL wide receiver John Brown, former defensive captain Nate Dreiling, and former defensive end’s Spencer Worthington and Gus Toca hoisting the championship trophy overhead. The wall across the hall displays an intimidating close up facial portrait of a silverback gorilla.

Once in the locker room you’ll notice individual nameplates mounted to the top of the lockers designating which player is calling each space their home. Near the entrance of the room are two honorary lockers displaying a shrine for two PSU greats, former Harlon Hill Award winners Ronald Moore and Ronnie West.

To cap off the tour you can take a stroll upstairs with a visit to the 11,000 square-feet ProMaxima Strength & Conditioning Center. Highlighted not only by the various state-of-the-art strength and conditioning equipment, but the roughly 500 lb. – 4-layer - raised lettering sign positioned in the center of the room.

Throughout the facility you will also notice various signage giving titles to the appropriate rooms you may be entering. Pittcraft’s high level of involvement in these projects give way to a greater partnership between PSU Athletics and Pittcraft Printing, and really reinforce how proud we are to hold the title of The Official Printer of PSU Athletics!

“Pittcraft is truly honored to be a part of the process in giving the PSU Robert W. Plaster Center a look that will not easily be forgotten, and establish it as a fixture in our community for many years to come… Photos just can’t display the essence and magnitude of not only the work we’ve been involved with, but the facility as a whole. I would highly encourage everyone to take time to see the facility in person in order to really appreciate the great craftsmanship put towards making the facility what it is.”
